The Highest Form Of Flattery: Imitation

"Channel 45", 20"x20", Acrylic on Canvas

Homage to a great. Nearly everyone knows of Jackson Pollock. The painter was made famous by his drip paintings. The title I choose reflects how I channeled my inner Pollock. He was at the height of this genre in the mid 40’s to early 50’s. He died in 1956 at the age of 44.

There’s a popular book in the art world called “Steal Like An Artist”. (No, I’m not an affiliate. Just thought I would include the link in case anyone is interested in the book.) The author describes how it’s pretty much all been done. There isn’t much left “new” to be created. I’m not sure I totally agree with that assessment but, I can see his point. This could explain why artists have started using new and unusual tools to create with.

Which brings me to the point of my post. Anyone can make one of these paintings. Here are the few supplies you need to give it a go. A canvas board, a tube of acrylic paint for a base coat, a small brush to cover the canvas with the base paint, and these inexpensive bottles of acrylic that you can find at any craft store or online. You don’t even have to keep it or show it to anyone unless you would like to post it with #dripdrippainting. Just have fun with it!
